We all have a story, right!? But regardless of where you've been in life, what matters most is where you're at right now, and that your past has left you memories and many...many learning experiences!
I grew up in Lake City, MN and left home at the ripe age of 18. I bopped around to different cities throughout the state, taking various education courses and working odd jobs. Then, in my mid-to-late twenties I worked hard to create a life I'd feel comfortable in. This included a lovely house in Alexandria, MN, a manager position at the local Wellness Center for 10 years that I loved, and a load of friends I could call up anytime for some good laughs and a glass of wine.
Isn't that what most people dream of?
Turns out, I was too comfortable. I was bored. Although I enjoyed my job, my friends, and journeyed around Minnesota with fun hiking trips, kayaking, and dispersed camping; my heart ached for more. So I followed my heart to search for something fresh. I quit my cushe job and sold everything. I said goodbye to my friends and house, sold my belongings, packed only what I needed (and could fit) in my little Chevy Cruz, and told my two dogs we are going on a very long car ride!
Our destination: Colorado Springs, CO. I made that 15 hour drive from Alexandria to Colorado Springs in one day, to start my personal training position a week later. After my 2 week airbnb ran out, it was crunch time to find shelter for my puppies and I. This is where I tell you: a she shed is real! Living in what seemed like a 3x5 box, I embraced everyday as I looked up at Pikes Peak from my front door. Next to the breathless mountain views, I enjoyed endless hikes, breweries, meeting new people, and finding new challenges. I needed so bad to live minimally, to get away, to soak up who I really am, and appreciate my love for Minnesota...and water (there's minimal water in the Springs)!
My time away..and travel budget, came to an end in September, 2018. I gracefully moved back to Minnesota to land exactly where I've always wanted to be: Duluth. But again, my heart beat for that next chapter in life. I knew exactly what that meant: start my own business of personal training and fitness classes. With over ten years experience of managing a team, personal training, and instructing classes; there is nothing else I'd rather do during my day but educate clients on their health and fitness. I live and breathe fitness; I thoroughly enjoy exercising myself and helping others routinely do the same, as well as search daily for a healthy balance of nutrition and fun.
I took a huge leap of faith when I let go of my content life and moved across the country. I took another leap of faith in March, 2020 by introducing Reps & Sets Fitness to the world. Now, cheers to your successes and push backs in life!
But seriously, scroll through the slideshow below and find the she shed:

Your success is my goal
Striving to push ourselves through the discipline of exercise makes us stronger both mentally and physically. I'm a firm believer that each exercise performed has a purpose. Whether you're taking a class or are training, your success is my goal. I will obtain your safety by making sure each appropriate muscle is engaged, form and technique are correct, and your breathing is on cue with each movement.
So, let's get you started. One more rep and one more set at a time!
Training with Shannon
I love to exercise and stay moving throughout the day, but I also love a good craft beer (or two!) and a few slices of pizza as I lounge on the deck! While my skinny jeans don't read a size 4 and I don't have defined arm muscles or lady abs, I do have a passion for exercise, stabilizing my food choices, and creating a well-balanced lifestyle. During my personal workouts I love to drive my body towards more intensity! Telling myself one, two, three more reps...focus on one more set of core, jog until I get to the next light pole. This type of self-talk is also how I engage with my clients; pushing your body to that next level! Training or coming to a class at Reps & Sets Fitness is meant to kick your glutes; I want you to leave our session feeling good, yet fatigued. With my main clientele being middle aged, I have many years of experience with bariatric, PAD, cancer survivors, graduates of physical therapy, and the elderly population. Regardless your ability and physical level, I will strive to accommodate you!
